When your child comes out as trans, their school becomes a crucial space where they'll spend much of their time. Knowing what to ask, and what answers to listen for, helps you assess whether your child's school is genuinely prepared to support them.
The right questions go beyond basic policy statements. You're looking for evidence that staff understand trans young people, that safeguarding is genuinely prioritised, and that your child will be treated with dignity and respect in all areas of school life, from toilets and changing rooms to records and communications with home.
